Here is everything you need to know to pack your bags and time your visit perfectly.

The "Golden Rule" of Dorado Weather

The temperature in Dorado is remarkably consistent. You can generally expect highs in the mid-80s°F (29-31°C) and lows in the low 70s°F (21-23°C) year-round. While the heat is steady, the "feel" of the island changes based on two main factors: humidity and rain.

Rainfall & The Rainy Season

Don't let the term "rainy season" (May to November) scare you off. In Dorado, rain usually follows a predictable tropical pattern:

  • The Afternoon Burst: Most rain occurs as brief, intense thunderstorms in the late afternoon. They often last only 30–60 minutes.

  • The Quick Dry: Because of the coastal breeze and Caribbean sun, the ground (and your spirit) usually dries up within minutes of the clouds clearing.

  • Wettest Month: November statistically sees the most rainfall, while March is the driest.

Hurricane Season (June 1 – Nov 30)

Like the rest of the Caribbean, Dorado is in the hurricane belt.

  • Peak Risk: Historically, August and September see the most activity.

  • Traveler Tip: If you visit during this window, travel insurance is your best friend. Modern forecasting provides plenty of warning, and high-end resorts in Dorado (like the Ritz-Carlton Reserve) are built to world-class safety standards.

Packing Essentials

Regardless of when you go, the "Dorado Uniform" remains the same:

  • Light Fabrics: Linen and cotton are essential for managing the 75%+ humidity.

  • Sun Protection: The UV index is often "Extreme" (10+). Pack reef-safe sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, and polarized sunglasses.

  • The "Just In Case" Layer: Bring a very light rain shell for those afternoon showers and a light sweater for over-air-conditioned restaurants.

  • Footwear: Flip-flops for the beach, but sturdy sandals or sneakers if you plan to explore the nearby El Yunque rainforest or Old San Juan’s cobblestones.

The Verdict: When is the "Best" Time?

  • For Perfect Weather: Visit in March. It’s the driest month, the humidity is at its lowest, and the ocean is calm.

  • For the Best Value: Aim for May or June. You beat the peak hurricane risks of late summer but avoid the "winter escape" price hikes of December and January.
